The ancient and modern capital city of Wales.
Not many places have an arts and crafts Victorian rebuild of a medieval castle, with the castle itself being built on the remains of a Roman fortress. Though there are many pubs, cafes, restaurants, nightclubs and other attractions you would expect from a modern cosmopolitan city.
Despite offering so much, the centre of Cardiff is quite compact, with most venues and attractions being within walking distance of each other.
A short train, bus (every half hour), or indeed boat (from beside the castle) journey from the city centre is Cardiff Bay, the city’s spectacular waterfront development with yet more opportunities for eating and drinking, a boutique cinema and the Principality arts centre.
Maps will be provided and more on all this is available from: https://www.visitcardiff.com/see-do/.
The weekend is built around the Day of Dance on Saturday 21 September, but those who wish to start early will be welcomed, especially with musical instruments and voices, in the upstairs room at the Flute and Tankard in Windsor Place.
The pub is a free house and a wide range of real ale and cider will of course be available. We regret and apologise to members that the premises are not currently fully accessible, having steps and stairs as part of navigating both outside and inside the pub.
For those who wish to explore the alternatives, the city is your oyster.
Registration will be managed electronically with a WhatsApp Group. Sides will have been provided in advance with details of the location of their dancing spots and should proceed direct to the first one.
Dancing will be spread over a number of spots in both Cardiff centre and also in Cardiff Bay. The timetable will allow for sides to travel between the two areas using public transport (adult daily bus cost £4.70, children £3.10). Allowance will be made for less mobile sides to remain in one of the areas.
The AGM will take place at Cornerstone on Charles Street.
Tea and coffee for AGM attendees will be available at Cornerstone prior to the AGM.
More information on the AGM is at: https://www.morrisfed.org.uk/resources/agm/
Cornerstone will be hosting a ceilidh/twmpath between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m with Bunny Eye, a local band and caller. Owing to the size of the venue tickets will be limited to the first 100…. but there will be a folk “session room” for musicians and and non-dancers. Cornerstone will have a bar, with real ale, available to all. Adult ticket prices are £12 for the ceilidh/twmpath and the folk session; and £2 for the folk session only.
For the die hards and those with stamina, there will be dancing at the Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans on the Western outskirts of Cardiff.
The museum is centred on an Elizabethan mansion and features historic buildings from around Wales, including the Vulcan, a rebuilt traditional Cardiff city centre pub, well favoured by Cardiff Morris back in the day… Other catering is also available.
There is free entry to the museum but parking charges £6 (free for disabled badge holders) for the day.
We cannot offer any accommodation, but as you would expect Cardiff has the full range of accommodation. Apart from the usual booking information sources , please visit: https://www.visitcardiff.com/stay/ Early booking is advisable.
No catering arrangements are being made for the weekend (apart from teas etc. at the AGM) but Cardiff and the Bay area are both very well supplied for food and drink establishments to suit all tastes.
